In the beginning, Gatehouse Saints wasn't intended to be a band. Jen is a songwriter, and Jim is a poet, so they decided it would help them both to start a living-room side project playing covers of the best lyricists they could find, and using what they learned about word-craft to make their own work better. A couple weeks into this, though, an act was needed to play a short set at The Space for Ames, and the Gatehouse Saints stepped up to fill the bill. The first show was good, the audience asked for more, and a band was born.
Now, even with the success they've had, Jen and Jim still do all that's in their power to stay true to the mission that got them started--identify the best lyricists on the planet, cover their songs, then use the lessons learned to build new, good, original music.
